Description



USES
We use the present simple to talk about:

• things that are always true
  

E.g.: The sun rises in the east.

• habits and things that happen repeatedly.
  

E.g.: I play guitar on Saturdays.
we often use the simple present with words that tell you how often:
for example always, never, often, sometimes, usually, once a day …
E.g.: You never listen to me.
FORM
AFFIRMATIVE
He / she / it plays
I / you / we / they play
NEGATIVE
we make present simple negatives with: do / does + infinitive
He / she / it does not play
I/ you / we / they do not play
INTERROGATIVE
we make present simple questions with: do / does + subject+ infinitive
Does he / she / it play?
Do I/ you / we / they play?
SHORT FORMS
does not = doesn´t do not = don´t
HOW TO MAKE HE / SHE / IT FORMS
most verbs : → + -s Examples: say – says; play – plays; know – knows.
-s, -sh , -ch, -x : → + -es Examples: pass – passes; wash- washes; teach- teaches; mix- mixes
exceptions: go-goes; do – does; have – has
VERBS ENDING IN -Y
vowel + y → + -s Example : say – says
consonant + y →-y – -ies Example: fly – flies
